With the nod to Sen. Harris, the 2020 election is solidified

I’m no Nate Silver or political svenghali (sic) but I knew Veep Foot-in-Mouth would pick  Sen. Hypocrite Harris. She was the lazy, cynical, terrible choice this moron is known for making. Then again, I can’t recall any election in which America gave two shits about the VP pick, maybe FDR’s in 1944 which could be possible. The closest it came to in my lifetime was Quayle in 1988. Little did we know, being stupid would be pre-requisite for the GOP years later via Palin the Ignorant, Bush the Lesser and the Orange Putz. The only thing I can give the Establishment credit for was not wasting the spot on someone from a state they won’t carry (see Dukakis, Slick Willie and Kerry).

This terrible former Attorney General-now Senator has left a huge trail of slime the SCLM might actually pick up on. Her reversal on the death penalty, putting transgendered women into men’s prisons and being the police unions’ lap dog. Another thing naive Democrats/Liberals need to learn from us on the Left, Black doesn’t automatically mean a Progressive. Trust me, many Black politicians have their own little fiefdoms of power they use to screw over their predominantly Black districts and many of the older ones side with “moderates” despite people like Rahm Emmanuel (currently a Wall Street Sycophant) covering up murders committed by the Chicago cops. Also, if John Lewis was such a saint, why didn’t he groom someone for the future of his GA district instead of clinging to power at 80 and while riddled with cancer?

Oh well, back to my point. Harris is perfect for lazy, knee-jerk Liberals like Frank Coiniff to defend as they’ll play the Racist and/or Misogynist cards whenever you bring up a valid criticism of her past.

Disney+ now allows The Simpsons to be viewed correctly!

Being able to watch The Simpsons without needing a DVD player and/or FX was a big incentive to subscribing to Disney+. However, the streaming playback sucked because they continued follow FX’s policy of zooming in on the first 22 seasons to avoid the vertical black bars on today’s widescreen TVs. This sucked. By cropping out the top and bottom of the picture, various visual jokes were lost.

The Mouse Empire fixed it around late May. Before you start viewing, there’s a preference on The Simpsons home screen in which you can set the show to 4:3 instead of 16:9 to get the proper experience. I for one don’t mind the “gaps.” My brain doesn’t pick up on them anyway. I’m more focused on thinking what debuted 30 years ago is still funny!

COVID-19 free…for now!

I wasn’t feeling too hot Wednesday and was pretty much sick for the next several days. What made it worse were all the people I know who’ve either come down with the Corona Virus (ex-wife in March 2020) or had close calls via other victims (my friend Kathy, Jennifer is a nurse). So with Kathy’s experience, I downloaded an app in which I could schedule a test. The amazing part was how briefly I had to wait! When I drove up to the medical center, there was only one vehicle waiting before me.

As for the test…OUCH! The swabbing was pretty painful. Not up there when I had in tonsillitis in 1996 or my recent tennis injury, but close. I think the nurse hit my uvula a couple times based upon the burning throughout my sinuses. FYI, the uvula is that dangling thing in the back of your throat Bugs Bunny will practice boxing with if he’s trapped in a whale or giant. The horrible sensation carried on for hours and washing it down with anything didn’t make it go away.

In the end it was worth, by Sunday morning, I received the good news via the app. The test came back negative = I don’t have it. Now how much certainty there was? I’m going to go with a score in the 90 percentile ranking and I might check again in a couple months. It was a relief after having three symptoms which need to be addressed.

Stray cats spotted by my security camera

Last week I got suckered into a “free” deal to have a security setup installed in my house, I think in the end it’s around $50-60/month for the bottom-end configuration. But I did get a cool camera installed on the house with it pointing out from my driveway to keep an eye on a key intersection and my friends’ house. It’s not a total wash because a while back, someone drove by to throw an object through another neighbor’s window. They suspected it was a disgruntled co-worker, really mature move.

Recently, it detected a couple stray cats wandering around which is cool. I’m confident they drop by to taunt my cats by saying, “Nyah! Nyah! Look at me! I’m living outside, wandering around, free…starving and fighting for my turf.”  Obviously these cats come out at night which is why the pictures are in grayscale. I could tell they’re different cats due to feline on the left having white fur on their rear legs. Maybe one day I will lure them in with food and get them homes via AHS.

KMAG is now 18!

As of today, my personal radio station has lived 11 years past the debut of Mac OS X Server 10.6 (nine years after it was dumped for its less impressive successor 10.7), has played over 2.4 million songs and shuffles around 15,000+ mp3’s to choose from; about 5000 behind the ridiculous schedule I put it on. KMAG has been a hobby/labor of love and I hope I can get another 18 years out of it. My stream is superior to any pathetic FM station operating today…as if anyone under 50 bothers.

Anje, Wyatt & Cannon return to Austin!

I finally received the green light from Anje to announce this wonderful news! Technically, they flew in from Doha over a week ago but I was vowed to secrecy because they needed to be quarantined for two weeks; some people are just too excited and/or impatient to see them, including me. However, the caution was required due to certain people being in the mask-refusing camp, aka, dumbasses.

So what’s the story? Well, Aaron (dad, and my brother-in-law) took a new position in Qatar. Unfortunately it didn’t include the benefit of residency so Wyatt and Cannon would be out-of-state students if they chose any public university in America. It’s a bummer. They were living the adventure I wish I had the opportunity to have when my old man interviewed for a job in South Africa. Anje also landed a job as a teacher in Eanes ISD which covers mostly the Westlake area of Austin. It’s a great district despite there being no shortage of anti-vaxxer, Volvo-driving soccer moms whose SUVs are greater than my annual salary. You know, wealthy White NIMBYs who profess they’re liberal yet behave Republican at every opportunity.

Regardless of Eanes I’m too stoked to have two of my nephews back! When they all left for Qatar I was beside myself. I want them to go, see the world (which they’ve done in spades!). I also wanted to be around as the cool uncle who takes them to Pinballz, concerts, etc. They were starting to get interested in D&D too! I hope I can salvage that fun and maybe they’ll join my long-stagnant campaign. Whatever! I get to have some good times, especially when this stupid Pandemic is over.

Someone rolled a ‘Natural 20’ on this French dude

Just horrifying to see this relic from the final battle between Napoleon and the allied forces against him. My first thought was, who the hell decided to take this off Fraveau’s corpse to save for posterity? My next was, well, no point in saving the receipt since his family will not be getting a refund. As one gamer friend joked, the seller told Fraveau…It’s cannonball resistant, not cannonball proof.

Googly eyes attack at Target!

Putting googly eyes on bland objects, posters, ads, whatever, always makes them better…and funnier! I bet the model who posed for this would be laughing.

Where have you been?

Isis and Agamemnon waiting in the window sill for their breakfast as I stroll in from being elsewhere overnight. It’s a rare moment these two team up, let alone sit near each other.

Fusion power! Maybe in a few years

The latest attempt to harness fusion power is being built in France by a rare cooperative effort between numerous nations, including those who are bitter enemies. I really hope they succeed and are on schedule as much as possible. It’s too late to stop Climate Change as the Earth in already headed to horrendous average temperatures. However, if fusion-based energy creation becomes viable, the world will definitely change for the better. No more fighting over the oil in the Middle East, less carbon being dumped into the atmosphere and should the reactor have an accident, the mess it makes is nothing compared to Chernobyl. The part which blew my mind the most are the magnets. They will be powerful enough to lift an aircraft carrier.

RIP Wilford Brimley

Mostly famous for plugging Quaker Oats in the Eighties, Wilford is remembered best as being the scientist in The Thing who knew how dangerous the doppelgänger monster was. After the John Carpenter remake, I would have to go with Cocoon, the light-hearted Sci-Fi flick Ron Howard directed. I guess Wilford just was able to play old and grumpy since he would’ve been around 50 during Cocoon yet the main characters were supposed to be Florida retirees.

He did do a bunch of other movies and TV but the only remaining thing coming to mind I would vaguely remember would be The China Syndrome.

Thanks for your contributions Wilford! It’s a good thing you didn’t need to convince me to enjoy oatmeal, I had that one down as a little kid.

Agamemnon is FIV free!

Today I got Agamemnon to the vet with the doctor who first saw him last year. Much has changed since his first official checkup. The main one is how sociable he is now, as in a 180; he’s gone from terrorized, growling and hiding on the kitchen cupboards to the cuddlebug who demands his morning petting.

Anyway, Aggie was diagnosed with FIV last time despite AHS saying he was fine and vaccinated. Today, we went with the third test and it came up negative, meaning either the last test was wrong or he beat the virus. Either result is great because I love this little bundle of muscle no matter how often he looks at me, goes “mew!” whenever he feels he hasn’t received enough petting.

Farewell July 2020

I have my vast music collection and my love it all to get me through the shit storm. I’m also very lucky to have a new girlfriend who shares this passion (you rock Jennifer!) and a few friends with the obsession. How I hope Waterloo Records survives. When there’s a vaccine, I so going on a spending bender to get 2020 into the stream!
