Most people know Norm from his stint on SNL, the movie Dirty Work and a his ABC sitcom The Norm Show. My favorite role he did was Norm the Genie from The Fairly Oddparents. He has many brief cameos in Man on the Moon as Michael Richards (yeah, the Kramer guy) and The People v. Larry Flynt showing his dramatic side.

For Austin, he brought the funny, stand-up persona and I think it was the longest show I’ve ever attended at the Cap City Comedy Club. Norm definitely has a different style live than what you get on cable, he meanders so much he makes Steven Wright appear focused. He’s hilarious, it’s just how he gets to his point or jokes which made the show different from past gigs. Maria Bamford is similar. I was impressed by the timeliness of the material, he had a dig over Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize which was clever…if you pay attention to current events: He won the peace prize on the same day he tried to blow up the moon!

We had a great time at his sold-out show. The club took too long to eject this annoying heckler behind us. It puzzles the crud out of me. The idiot paid around $30 to see Norm MacDonald, an A-list comedian and felt compelled to interrupt, as if he had a right? The doofus probably talks aloud in movie theaters so I better not see him at the Alamo Drafthouses.

Opening for Norm was a really skilled comedian named Amber something. She also writes the humor column in Life & Style. Amber had some memorable zingers. She lives in Minneapolis so I will have to ask my friend Cindy who resides in the area if she has had the chance to see this funny lady headline something.

Sadly, I didn’t get the opportunity for a photo and conversation. The show was packed, Norm didn’t seem to be in the mood (not cranky, probably busy and didn’t have anything to promote), there was some pretty tough-looking security present and I was very tired with a long drive to Spicewood ahead of me. Maybe next time. If you do get to the opportunity to see Norm live, I highly recommend it, then you’ll understand the latest inside joke I have with my friends Jeff and Jeremy.

Friday night, I kicked off the weekend festivities with a trip to Fry’s to buy an upgrade to my MacBook (haven’t installed it yet) and see this talented comedian.
